Glycolate oxidase (EC1.1.3.15) is a key enzyme in plant photorespiration metabolism and a key enzyme for synthesis of oxalic acid under light. It catalyzes the oxidation of glycolic acid to glyoxylic acid, which is useful for studying the metabolic process of photorespiration and Its regulation is of great significance.

Glycolic acid oxidase catalyzes the oxidation of glycolic acid to produce glyoxylic acid, and the reaction of glyoxylic acid and phenylhydrazine hydrochloride produces glyoxylic acid phenylhydrazone, which has a characteristic absorption peak at 324nm.
