Glycogen Synthase Activity Assay kit
GCS (EC 2.4.1.11) catalyzes the generation of glycogen and UTP from UDPG and glucose residues, and is linked by alpha-1,4-glycosidic bonds to extend the sugar chain. It is the rate-limiting enzyme of liver and muscle glycogen synthase. The main target enzyme of insulin action plays an important role in the regulation of glucose metabolism and the maintenance of blood glucose homeostasis.
GCS catalyzes UDPG and glucose residues to generate glycogen and UDP, and pyruvate kinase and lactate dehydrogenase further catalyze the oxidation of NADH to NAD+ in turn. The decrease rate of NADH is measured at 340nm to reflect the GCS activity.
