Glycerol Kinase Activity Assay kit

Glycerol kinase (GK, EC 2.7.1.30) is a key enzyme in the pathway of glucose metabolism. It is responsible for the uptake and metabolism of glycerol in vivo. It catalyzes the phosphorylation of glycerol, which is the first step in the glucose metabolism pathway. By measuring the activity of glycerol kinase, we can understand the status of glucose metabolism, which is helpful for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Glycerol is oxidized to glycerol phosphate by glycerol kinase (GK), and glycerol phosphate oxidase (GPO) oxidizes glycerol phosphate to produce hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide reacts with 4-aminoantipyrine and 2,4-dichlorophenol to form a red product, which has a characteristic absorption peak at 505 nm. According to this, the activity of glycerol kinase can be calculated.
