Free Carnitine, Total Carnitine Content Assay kit
Carnitine, also known as carnitine, is a non-protein amino acid. In vivo, carnitine is related to fatty acid metabolism, mainly as a carrier to transport long-chain fatty acids from the mitochondrial membrane to the mitochondrial membrane, thereby promoting fatty acid beta-oxidation. In addition, carnitine also plays an important role in physiological functions such as the regulation of acyl CoA/CoA ratio in mitochondria and the elimination of free radicals in organisms. The total carnitine determined by this kit is the sum of free carnitine and acid-soluble short-chain ester acyl carnitine.
Under the catalysis of carnitine acetyltransferase, the acetyl group of acetyl-CoA is transferred to carnitine to produce free CoA. Free coenzyme A can react with DTNB to form TNB with light yellow color, which has a characteristic absorption peak at 412 nm. The content of free carnitine and total carnitine was calculated by measuring the change of absorption value.
