Ascorbic Acid Oxidase is a glycoprotein located in the cell wall of plants, belonging to the "blue copper oxidase" family. Ascorbic acid and AAO in the cell wall are closely related to cell wall metabolism and growth. The MDHA formed by the oxidation of AsA by AAO can be reduced by cytochrome b on the plasma membrane. In this process, the transport of electrons across the membrane can promote cell growth.

AAO can directly oxidize AsA, and AAO activity can be calculated by measuring the oxidation amount of AsA.
