Albumin Content Detection Assay (bromocresol green colorimetric method)

Albumin is the main protein in human plasma. It is synthesized by the liver and is an important nutrient in the human body. It can maintain plasma osmotic pressure and can be combined with a variety of nutrients, hormones and drugs. The albumin content can reflect the nutritional status of the body and can also detect diseases that affect the liver's metabolic function, such as cirrhosis, liver damage, malnutrition, malignant tumors, etc.

Serum albumin carries a positive charge in a buffer solution at pH 4.2. In the presence of a nonionic surfactant, it can combine with the negatively charged dye bromocresol green to form a blue-green complex with an absorption peak at a wavelength of 630 nm. The depth of its color is directly proportional to the albumin concentration.
