Ac-[D-Lys2, Sar3]-MPF
This metabolically stable analog of MPF is known as a neurotrophic peptide capable of CNS regeneration. It has been shown to reduce parkinsonian-like behaviour in rats with unilateral lesions of their nigro-striatal pathways. This effect is related to reversal of the mitochondrial damage to the neurons. As a mitochondrial defect is supposed to be the initial step in the genesis of Parkinson's disease, the peptide may be a very useful tool in the investigation of this disease.
