Versene (EDTA) 0.1% Solution [0.1% Versene in D-PBS; w/o Phenol red]

Versene (Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid or EDTA) is a chelating agent that binds divalent cations such as calcium and magnesium. Chelation of these cations leads to dissociation of cell monolayers and release of the cellsinto suspension. Versene can be used as a wash prior to addition of trypsin or in combination with trypsin. The combination works faster than trypsin or versene alone because versene allows trypsin to hydrolyze specific intercellular peptide bonds and destabilize the intercellular matrix. This sterile filtered solution formulated to contain 0.1% EDTA in Dulbecco’s phosphate buffered saline
